Dominical is a small village dependent on tourism, just north of Bahia Ballena. Rapid new developments are looming on the horizon. The community requires improved sanitation, as well as potable water service, in order to keep up with development and increases in population during the peak tourism season. The current sanitary conditions in Dominical are similar to both Piedras Blancas and Bahia Ballena. It presents extra challenges in that it experiences flooding due to its proximity to the ocean and the Rio Baru River.
Global Water Stewardship has been working on creating a partnership with the new developers to fund a centralized treatment facility that will service both the existing community and new developments.
